Hello, Mr. Kevin

Cipaganti 8, 9, 10.

Sore itu kami berdua kembali mendapatkan nomor tempat duduk yang sama dengan keberangkatan kami ke Jakarta. Nomor 8 dan nomor 9 deretan bangku paling belakang. Oh dear, berasa dejavu. Setelah interview berjalan sangat tanggung, perjalanan sore ini dengan kehadiran Mr Kevin di bangku nomor 10, cukup menghibur gue secara pribadi.

Setelah setengah perjalanan Cikampek kami benar-benar mengabaikan dia, setelah berhenti di Rest Area 47 akhirnya gw mengambil inisiatif ngobrol sama dia.

G : Hi, Are you on vacation or for business (well, yeah I asked him out of the blue)

Kaget juga karena dia ngomongnya kenceng banget. Agak malu juga. Tapi karena bule yaudahlah gue nothing to lose aja.

K : Hoo.. Sa-yaa.. di- si… nii.. businiiis…. (dengan logatnya yang campur-campur Indo-Inggris) Saya ada ra-pat besok pagi jam 8

Agak kecewa juga bisa ngomong Bahasa Indonesia, jadi nggak bisa latihan Bahasa Inggris.

G : Where are you come from, sir?

K : Australia

G : Ah, I see.

… (Beberapa kali suka ziiing kehabisan topik sebentar, well, don’t worry perjalanan masih sangat panjang)

G : Are you working for … err  “swasta” or for embassy?

K : ah.. swasta saya bekerja di swasta, saya bekerja di AIIU yang menyediakan jasa student exchange untuk anak SD, SMP, SMA antar Indonesia-Australia

G + D : WHOA!! really, cool. Jadi di bidang pendidikan ya.

K : Betul.

G : What a coincidence, my friend here is interested to take her chance for master scholarship in Australia too.

D : Yes, I want to have scholarship maybe at the end of year.

K : Hoo, sayang, mungkin itu program mulai tahun depan

G : Ah.. I see. How long you have been here, sir?

K : Actually saya sudah di Indonesia sejak 78

K : Dimana kalian sekolah?

G + D : we’re from itib’i

K : hoo, I know- I know. Graduate?

G + D : Yes, we have graduated last October.

K : What major do you study at?

G +D : We took Information Technology

D : Mau tanya, sir. Universitas di Australia yang bagus untuk IT apa?

G : She ask what’s university in Australia which remarkable for study IT?

K : Ah, hmm.. because I live on Melbourne I only know some universities there. There are 6 university all over Melbourne. Ada University of Melbourne, Swinburn (entah pelafalannya gimana), and also  RMIT. RM IT is good, like  ITB here. My daughter studied there for.. umm.. perancangan pembangunan.

G : Sipil? Civil engineering, isn’t she?

K : … insya Allah …

(ha ha ha, lupa ngomong apa, tapi dia ngomong ini, agak kaget juga, mungkin menghargai temen gue ini yg pake kerudung)

K : Adik saya ada yang tinggal di Surabaya. she’s a doctor… umm.. what you call it… me-la-hir-kan..

D : oh, gyenocologist?

K : yes, yes, Gyenocologist. Maybe if you want have baby you can meet her there. (laughing) her name is Sophie.

D : (laughing) hahaha, no sir, long way to go.

K : She is the first woman in Indonesia who become Gyenocologist in Indonesia.

G + D : wow, awesome. around 1978, huh?

K : yes. At that time there are no woman who became gyenocologist. Semua gyenocologist laki-laki nggak mau ada perempuan yang masuk ke ilmu itu dulu. Sudah seperti grup para laki-laki. Well, Sophie is tough woman.

G : what’re you doing here in 1978, sir?

K : it’s also in the program. Kerja sama dengan pemerintah untuk memperbaiki sistem pengajaran di Indonesia. I went to Bandung, and so I can met my wife there

G+D : whoa!! your wife Indonesian?

K : yes, she’s Indonesian.

D : that’s why you speak so fluently in Indonesia.

K : no, my son and my daughter speak it better than me. My son took Indonesia language course in Melbourne. My son is work in telecomunication like managing MMS, media telecommunication, broadcast, etc. He was also studied at IT.

(He took his cellphone and show some digital photo card to us)

K : Here.. photo of my daughter (24 years old).

G : she’s beautiful, sir. I can look her resemblence combination of Indonesian face and foreigner.

K : we took the photo in Stadium of @!#%$^ (lupa… nama klub sepakbola australia yang kostumnya mirip Newcastle, mereka memakai syal bertuliskan the magpies) All of us love this club. It’s when they’re win the championship

G : Do you mean Brisbane Roar? (Agak sotoy, mengingat bukannya yang juara A-league tahun ini klub yang dibeli Bakrie, Brisbane Roar ??)

K : no, it’s @!#%$^.

G : oh okay (ngalah deh, mungkin ini diambil bukan tahun ini). The Magpies, just like Newcastle, huh.

K : YES YES, YOU’RE GENIOUS. Yes, because it’s jersey resemble theirs, we call it the magpies too.

D : … err… (nggak mudeng)

K : she’s born in Bandung.. what you called it.. Borromeus.

G+D : whoaa.. it’s really close to ITB, sir.

G : yeah, next to ITB. Dunia emang sempit ya.

D : Kami belum tahu nama Anda?

K : Oh, saya Kevin.

G : Gimana mister ketemu istri Anda di Bandung?

D : sesama staff?

K : I sent by the office to give counterpart.. it’s like if the student exchange go to the other country. So I was one of the staff that teach people.

G : Oh i see. just like mentor, maybe?

K : Right. You’re right, like mentor.

G : Love at the first sight, maybe…? (joking)

K : Hahahaha, yes love at the first sight. Jatuh Cinta.

all of us laughing, geje mengorek cerita mister ini.

K : and then we married in Bandung, in Salman

G + D : WHAT, Salman! (we both surprised laughing as if the surprise never stop)

K : lalu saya masuk Islam disini waktu itu.

G +D : … (again, surprised)

K : nama saya jadi Muhammad Salman. Mengambil dari nama masjid itu.

G +D : …. (just speechless)

gelo, so sweet kali.

ah ternyata Sophie tuh orang Indonesia -> bukan sister tapi sister in law dari si istrinya. Dia pernah mampir ke Jambi, Mataram, Bali, Bandung, Jakarta, Surabaya. Mr Kevin juga jadi pioneer (satu dari 4 dosen) university of Brunei. Well, well, akhirnya kami bertukar kontak.

C (Orang Cipaganti) : Mister, kalau mau naik taxi bisa dari sini

K : Saya mau ke Jalan Sumatra.

G + D : Nice to meet you, sir.
