4 workspace, 4 wallpaper?
Some early expert must have known CCSM(Compiz config setting manager) which is used to manage some effect on ubuntu interface. Some of you usually like to use this one, Cubic effect and friends. It require 4 column workspace on your desktop. So you can make it rotate either 2D or 3D.
Wait.. wait.. I won’t talk about the features of CCSM, I just want to share some information about how to make defferent wallpaper on each workspace.
There are 2 alternatives. I have tried both of them, but what I like is the second one…
ALTERNATIVE 1
Install Wallpapoz, It’s like a wallpaper manager. Wallpapoz can manage the wallpaper on each workspace. It also can manage the wallpaper to change simultaneously. Actually it’s really simple and great, but there’s some bug on it. so I’ll pass to the 2nd alternative.
NOTE: After install wallpapoz, the effect of wallpapoz will appear after you disabling “show_desktop’ like what I do on the resume below.
ALTERNATIVE 2
Assumptions:
- You have Ubuntu 8.04 running. (Though it should work with 7.10 as well. But I haven’t tried it.)
- You have installed CCSM. Check under System ->Preferences if Advanced Desktop Effect Setting is there.
- For better results you have Avant Window Navigator installed. (Else you won’t be able to use any shortcut on your desktop.)
If you have set up all that then it should be pretty easy for you. Just follow the following steps:
- Go under System> Preferences > Advanced Desktop Settings
- Select Desktop Cube >Appearance > Background images
- Click New under background images and add all the images you want as background.
- Alt + F2 to launch the Run Terminal.
- Enter gconf-editor and hit Run.
- Go under apps > nautilus > preference
- Deselect ‘Show Desktop’.
That’s it. You are all set. Check all the workspaces. You should have the images you selected as wallpapers on these. Cool…
Note:
[1]You will notice that you can’t right-click on the desktop and all your existing desktop shortcuts are gone. But don’t worry they are not gone. You will have to go under Places > Desktop to see all the thing you kept on original desktop. Going forward if you save something on desktop they will also appear on that location only. This is one thing you will have to sacrifice if you want to have different wallpapers on each workspace.
[2]For user who use ubuntu 8.10, I’ve experienced something.. To insert the picture, just go to CCSM > utility > wallpaper
[3]But hold on…there is a good news for you if you enabled Avant Window Navigator, then all your shortcuts should be there. Enjoy different wallpapers on all your workspaces. Did you like it?

desktop manager? or DE(desktop environment)?
I’m looking for an unique desktop manager err.. desktop environment.. Actually I’m not sure the appropriate term for what I’m looking for now. The one I look after is the desktop manager with a command line on that desktop. So it’s looks like inline command prompt as one of your desktop bar. Haha, thanks to my senior in college, I’ve become so fond of it.

The term desktop refers to the graphical environment where you do your work. The desktop usually consists of a workspace (called the root window) with pretty icons and quite possibly a menu that pops up when you click on it, usually a panel on the top or the bottom and/or top of the screen with a menu and a lot of other practical services you may never even notice.
The most important part of any desktop is the window manager, this is the application that handles window placements and movements. The window manager is what draws a border (or no border) around your windows and makes them maximize, minimize, moves and behave according to your preferences.
So in this post, I don’t really care what people use to define what I’m defined. I just simply call this desktop thing with DE(Desktop environment).
Okay, why don’t we mention it all?!
mm Hm.. First, the most people use it, your windows has windows explorer on it as DE. Actually the real name of this DE is NT, but Bill prefer to make it simple as windows explorer. (I don’t know if MS-DOS in early age of computer is classified as DE too..). But do you know that your DE isn’t permanent?What’s the implication? Of course, because it’snt permanent so you can change everything. Do whatever you like.
And then, let’s talk about what they use in linux. There are KDE and GNOME. what’s the best? I will not know it, because what’s best is about taste. I think they both good.
There are many of them if you googling it, these are some of them:

Actually there are a partial management of DE. I mean DE contain many parts and each part has manager. For example, for window part, there are many window manager if you want to change your window at your current DE. Gnome uses a window manager called metacity, KDE uses kwin. Both these desktops can be used with any other window manager if you do not like the default choice.
Do you like to watch pimp my ride? Yeah, you can do it on your DE. You can experiment using KDE parts, GNOME parts, and other parts.
Back to my question.. I’m looking for one unique DE which conatain such a inline command prompt. Unfortunately, I’m using ubuntu right now and I don’t want to experiment yet.

oh ternyata begitu.. gw baru tau kalau sebenarnya yang buat cepet facebook bukan java script tapi most of it AJAX..
deeeeemn.. rupanya begitu, gw udah curiga ama kecepatan akses facebook yang ruaar biasa.. perbedaannya sebenarnya “terasa” lumayan jelas sih..
Ini salah satu penggunaan java script pada editing konten blog multiply (perhatikan dengan baik penanda penggunaan javascript di pojok kiri pada gambar di bawah):
Jujur, karena gw belom tahu banyak tentang ajax, dan belum pernah nyoba nambahin kode javascript ke site-site gue(lebih tepatnya gak memungkinkan), jadi penjelasan gw lebih kepada feeling yang gw rasakan mengenai perbedaan javascript dan ajax.
saat gw meng’click’ button yang mengaktivasi si javascript, perubahan yang tampak tuh kebanyakan seperti munculnya window2 yang gak bakalan mempengaruhi site itu, kalo di gambar atas langsung muncul kotak ungu yang melingkupi, setiap konten. Bisa juga muncul window seperti notifikasi sendiri.
Untuk masalah akses, ada yang terasa berbeda… ajax tuh lebih misterius ( 
yah secara gw blom tau). tapi beneran de, misal aja kita neken button yang mengaktivasi suatu kode ajax, perubahan yang terjadi gak begitu kelihatan, tapi berubah, seperti pindah halaman pada halaman facebook.. sedangkan kalo javascript perubahannya kelihatan.. apa ini cuma perasaan gua doang, ya?
gua baru nyadar kalo facebook pake ajax, setelah internet tiba2 gak connect dan muncul notifikasi seperti ini…
munculnya windows notifikasi pada facebook juga keknya karna bang ajax.. uniknya si ajax tuh dalam kasus-kasus tertentu efeknya mirip dengan flash(dalam speed mode.. brati flash FLASH.. soalnya kalo flash kan lambat banget ..)

copy text from protected pdf files
I have a litle secret (dirty? I don’t think so..)trick on one of my college subject. I have a troublesome problem to copy a code on some pdf files. Yeah, I don’t understand why it’s been protected but there’s always many ways to go to Roma XD
If you have a problem to open or to copy protected pdf files, you can do these things with your files:
- If your computer has linux(such as fedora, ubuntu, etc) on other booting, you can open it there. I don’t know why, the protection to “copy action” is disabled. Maybe the pdf viewer can’t manage the protection.
- Use THIS portable pdf viewer, so you can read pdf files everywhere, everytime, without worrying about that protection. At least it works til now( 16 January 2009). Maybe in the future pdf creator will strengthen their protection… especially not to underestimate the power of open source(at this point, they’re a litlle careless not to provide the protection on linux, and some pdf viewers)

whew, belakangan perang antara mart semakin menggila. Persaingan antara pelaku franchise atau pedagang semakin ketat, dan menggunakan segala cara. Cara persaingan yang wajar tuh dulu dengan bersaing harga. Biasanya para pedagang dulu mainannya banting harga. Diskon inilah diskon itulah, kaya jualan voucher hape di jaman ini. Tapi sekarang saingannya udah melewati level berikutnya:
Skala kecil:
Warung deket rumah, dulu di sana terdapat satu warung yang menjajakan bahan makanan sehari-hari dari telor, snack, tepung, dll. Beberapa tahun berlalu, dan sekarang di sebelah warung itu persis ada warung yang menjajakan konten warung yang sama. Gw heran apa pemilik warung yang baru begitu pede dan gak sungkan bersaing dengan tetangganya ya?

indomaret vs mart lain
Entah kebijakan dari indomaret atau memang yang membeli franchise yang sudah gila dalam mengambil keputusan, tapi lokasi pendirian indomaret sekarang sudah aneh banget. Suatu ketika gw melihat Alfamart baru aja berdiri, dan laku keras. Beberapa Bulan setelahnya indomaret berdiri di sebelahnya persis. Kejam juga menurut gw. Di tempat lain, dekat kosan gw di bandung, ada mart yang sama sekali gak ada franchisenya(alfamart sih masi bisa bersaing lah ya) mart ini udah lama banget disitu, dan beberapa bulan yang lalu, indomaret berdiri tepat di seberangnya.

gw langsung menunjuk pada mall di depok: depok town square vs margo city
kalau dipikir seharusnya mereka mikir bahwa otomatis pengunjung mereka akan tereduksi hingga 50% kan atau saling membunuh satu sama lain.
Satu hal yang positif dari persaingan gila ini adalah timbulnya kompetisi dan inovasi dari pemilik bangunan/franchise nya. Coba lihat saja si unknown mart yang diseberangnya kini ada indomaret. Karena tahu franchise macam indomaret tutup sekitar jam 10-11, dia mengakalinya dengan buka hingga jam 1- jam2 malam, dan buka lebih awal. Hasilnya, secara itu daerah anak kosan deket kampus yang banyak pulang malem, jam-jam malem itu jamnya si unknown mart untuk meraih untung secara max. Inovasi si unknown mart itu juga mengandalkan harga murah yang bersaing dengan harga murah indomaret.
wadoh.. berdagang aja bersaing nya separah itu, gimana kalo kerja ya?

Keunggulan yang paling besar dari FAT16 adalah kemampuan untuk bekerja pada banyak sistem operasi yang berbeda seperti, Windows 95/98/Me, OS/2, Linux, dan beberapa versi dari UNIX. Sedangkan kelemahan terbesarnya terletak pada jumlah kluster yang terbatas untuk tiap partisinya, sehingga apabila hardisk bertambah besar maka ukuran kluster yang ada pada hardisk juga akan bertambah besar. Pada hardisk dengan besar partisi 2GB, setiap kluster mempunyai besar 32 kilobytes, artinya walaupun file yang terdapat pada hardisk tersebut lebih kecil dari 32 KB maka pada hardisk dengan FAT16 tetap akan menempati ruangan sebesar 32 KB. FAT16 juga tidak mendukung kompresi, enkripsi dan beberapa teknik keamanan yang lain.
FAT32
Sistem file FAT32 pertama kali diperkenalkan saat peluncuran Windows 95 Service Pack 2. Sistem file ini merupakan pengembangan dari FAT16 dengan perbaikan utama terletak pada peningkatan jumlah kluster untuk setiap partisi. Dalam perjalanannya ternyata FAT32 mempunyai banyak keunggulan lain bila dibandingkan dengan pendahulunya. Meskipun FAT32 bertujuan untuk menutupi segala kelemahan yang terdapat pada FAT16, ternyata timbul suatu masalah dengan kompatibelitas terhadap sistem operasi yang lain. Bila FAT16 mampu ‘bercengkrama’ dengan banyak sistem operasi, tidak demikian halnya dengan FAT32. Windows NT, Linux dan UNIX adalah beberapa diantara sistem operasi yang gagal ‘dihinggapi’ oleh FAT32. Setelah muncul Windows XP, hal ini tidak menjadi masalah lagi karena Windows XP dapat dipasang dengan baik pada FAT32 sehingga mempermudah melakukan komunikasi di jaringan yang menggunakan Windows XP tanpa memperdulikan sistem file yang digunakan.
NTFS(NT File System)
Sistem file NTFS diperkenalkan pertama kali saat peluncuran versi awal dari Windows NT. Sistem file ini sangat berbeda dengan FAT. NTFS memberikan fitur keamanan yang sangat tinggi, kompresi data yang bagus serta enkripsi data yang susah ditembus. Sistem file ini merupakan sistem file default saat kita pertama kali melakukan instalasi Windows XP dan jika kita melakukan upgrade dari Windows 9x ke Windows XP maka kita akan ditanya apakah kita juga akan mengkonversi sistem file lama kita ke NTFS. Jika kita menolak untuk melakukan konversi juga tidak menjadi masalah sebab Windows XP tetap akan bekerja pada sistem file FAT32 tentu dengan fitur keamanan yang kurang. Yang perlu diingat, kita bisa dengan mudah melakukan konversi sistem file dari FAT16 atau FAT32 ke NTFS, tetap sebaliknya, bila kita ingin mengkonversi balik ke FAT dari NTFS tidak bisa dilakukan dengan mudah tanpa men-format hardisk.
Sayangnya sistem file NTFS tidak bisa menutupi kelemahan FAT32 dalam masalah kompatibelitas dengan sistem operasi yang lain sehingga disarankan bila kita menggunakan 2 sistem operasi yang berbeda dalam 1 komputer maka kita diharapkan untuk selalu menyediakan satu partisi dengan sistem file FAT sebagai tempat menyimpan data recovery. Namun dengan fitur recovery yang ditawarkan/termasuk di dalam sistem operasi Windows XP, saya rasa pembuatan partisi FAT ini menjadi suatu yang mubazir.

Khusus Tsubasa gw naruh perhatian khusus. Entah ini sugesti ato emang nasib, kayanya Tim Jepang yang betulan tuh terbentuk dari rasa optimis orang Jepang. Hal itu dimulai dari yang paling minimal, komik dulu deh, dia udah berani ngomong Jepang masuk final PD pada tsubasa yg dibuat taun 80-an, gile kan? Kalo negeri kita kebanyakan komentator.
Nah makanya itu, bulu tangkis kan blom nongol. Cepetan komikus Indonesia buat komik/anime olahraga bulutangkis ama pencak silat. itu olahraga andalan bangsa kita kan? masa ntar dibuat ama mereka.
Apa kek, judulnya drop shot atau smash juga boleh lah(lol sampe gw buat ilustrasinya coba!! gag jelas bgt XD). buat pencak silat boleh kasih judulnya black belt atou sapuan juga boleh, ntar saingan ma chinmi nya kungfuboy. yang penting jangan ampe kalah ma orang jepang. ingat!! itu olahraga andalan kita…

kalo Game Online RPG udah ada loh yg ke-indonesiaan.. yg buat diantaranya anak ITB, judulnya Nusantara. Maennya kaya CS(read:counter strike) gitu… ceritanya ttg kerajaan majapahit. gw juga blom pernah maeninnya sih. tp oke juga sih.
gw pernah liat previewnya di aula barat ITB, kocak bgt. kalo di RO(read:ragnarok online) kita keliling2 cari monster trus dapet item. kalo ini keliling2 ketemunya pocong.. bwahahaha…LOL ROTF…XDXDXD…

if you’re first ubuntu user, you may be confused how to play with my sql/php. Some people used to xampp to operate their php script and mysql database on their windows. I know well how convenient xampp is.Installing xampp is equal to install apache server, mysql, and phpmyadmin. all at once. So I’m here to tell you a story how can I install my phpmyadmin.
The concept is same. We need apache on your computer as server. Open your terminal and type:
sudo apt-get install apache2
You need to install PHP as server language. I don’t understand what exactly installing php is, but It’s also included in xampp package.
sudo apt-get install php5
Then, you need to install my-sql as server database:(you need average 120 MB on your ubuntu drive system)
sudo apt-get install mysql-server
type this script to install mysql for apache…
sudo apt-get install libapache2-mod-auth-mysql
install this too…
sudo apt-get install php5-mysql
To Install Phpmyadmin, use this script:
sudo apt-get install phpmyadmin
If you have installede everything you need, then try to start your apache
/etc/init.d/apache2 start
Next mission: check your browser, mozilla FF of course, then type:
http://localhost/
If you see this:
It works!
it means that your apache has run well! well done! But your mission hasn’t finished yet.
Next, you will edit apache configurations. You may edit it with gedit or vi editor.
sudo gedit /etc/apache2/apache2.conf
or
sudo vi /etc/apache2/apache2.conf
add this line and save:
Include /etc/phpmyadmin/apache.conf
Now go to http://localhost/phpmyadmin .
Okay, now you have your phpmyadmin on your ubuntu works well.

Use tar archiver: tar <options> <file>
First fact: tar compressor is a default installed program there. Second fact: actually you can extract or compress the files on desktop/interface. Third fact: you can see the syntax on tar help: tar –help
Create/compress: -cf for creating file.tar, -czf for creating file.tar.gz

Clear view: clear
Actually this command doesn’t really clear your terminal’s view. It’s just make the terminal go down until the previous line unseen. If you scroll up your terminal you’ll see the previous line after some empty space.

Download and Install: apt-get
apt-get is a simple command line interface for downloading and installing packages. The most frequently used commands are update and install.
